Antoine Fuqua, director of "The Equalizer" trilogy, helms the Michael Jackson biopic "Michael." Earlier this year, reports surfaced that the film would need to reshoot its entire third act, which addresses child molestation allegations, due to legal clause disputes. Last month, rumors intensified that it would be split into two parts and its release delayed. Now, these reports have not only been confirmed but have also seen further developments.
Lionsgate's CEO recently admitted during an earnings call that "Michael" is indeed facing a release delay, though the specific new dates will be officially announced later. Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter (THR) exclusively revealed today that "Michael" is set to begin a 22-day reshoot next month. This schedule is only for the "first part" of the film, confirming that the plan to split it into two installments is indeed moving forward.

THR explained that this round of reshoots isn't just to rework the previously modified third act, but also to expand the content of the first part. This initial installment is expected to conclude with Michael's official departure from The Jackson 5, following the release of his debut solo album, "Off the Wall."
"Michael" is penned by "Gladiator" screenwriter John Logan and produced by "Bohemian Rhapsody" Academy Award-winning producer Graham King. Michael's real-life nephew, Jaafar Jackson, stars as Michael. Colman Domingo plays Michael's father, Joe Jackson, while Nia Long portrays Michael's mother, Katherine Jackson. Miles Teller is cast as Michael's estate executor, John Branca. Universal Pictures handles international distribution.
