At today's PlayStation State of Play presentation hosted by Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), the brand-new James Bond game, "007: First Light," developed by "Hitman" studio IO Interactive, officially unveiled its first trailer and confirmed a 2026 release for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch 2.

The game's cinematic-style trailer introduces a fresh, younger iteration of Bond, delving into his origin story before he became the legendary MI6 agent. The preview reveals a traumatic event from his childhood at age 11, where he witnessed his parents cut their ropes to save him during a mountain accident, leaving him as the sole survivor and casting a shadow over his future as a spy.
Additionally, the developers revealed that Lennie James, known for his role in the hit series "The Walking Dead," will also star in the game, portraying another character. Specific details about his role remain under wraps, generating significant fan anticipation.
"007: First Light" was first announced in 2020 under the working title "Project 007." At the time, the development team emphasized that it would be an entirely new, original Bond origin story, not an adaptation of any existing film. IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak further hinted that the team hopes this title will mark the beginning of a trilogy.
With IO Interactive temporarily shelving the "Hitman" series, "007: First Light" has become their primary focus, carrying the weight of player expectations for a fresh take on the stealth-action genre. The game is slated for an official launch in 2026, and Bond enthusiasts and action game fans are encouraged to keep an eye out for further updates.
