Celebrating 44 years since their creation, the "Care Bears" plush toy brand has amassed a devoted fanbase. Originally appearing as characters on greeting cards, the franchise later expanded into plush toys, action figures, video games, and comic books. It also spawned a series of theatrical animated films, direct-to-video movies, numerous television series, and TV specials. However, in recent years, Care Bears animations have primarily been small-screen ventures, with over a decade passing since their last big-screen appearance. Now, Warner Bros. Pictures is reportedly looking to break that hiatus.

According to an exclusive report from Deadline today, Josh Greenbaum, director of "Will & Harper" and "Strays," has been tapped to direct the live-action "Care Bears" movie. The directing duo Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, known for "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves," will serve as producers through their production company, GoldDay. The project is currently in its very early stages of development, with no screenwriter attached yet, meaning details are scarce and a release date is still a long way off.
