At this year's Summer Game Fest, developer Mundfish officially announced that its action-shooter sequel, "Atomic Heart 2," is now in development. The studio also revealed a brand-new spin-off title, "The CUBE," promising to expand the retro-futuristic universe with a fresh chapter.
"Atomic Heart 2" continues the series' alternate history and retro-futuristic setting, once again plunging players into a utopian society where humans and robots are meant to coexist. However, the unchecked rise of advanced artificial intelligence and mechanical lifeforms leads to civilization's collapse. As the world teeters on the brink of destruction, players will embody the pivotal character tasked with saving humanity. The game will be a first-person action-adventure title incorporating RPG systems, set to launch on PC and consoles.
The other new title, "The CUBE," is a multiplayer RPG shooter set several years after the original game. Its stage is a mysterious, colossal cube floating in the sky. The appearance of this cube triggers a series of anomalies and disasters, compelling players to delve deep within to uncover its truth and prevent humanity from facing another extinction-level crisis. "The CUBE" is also slated for release on PC and home consoles.
The original "Atomic Heart," released in 2023, garnered widespread acclaim from both media outlets and players. Critics often praised it as a highly ambitious and stylistically distinct atompunk experience that successfully captured the spirit of "BioShock." Since its launch, the game has accumulated over 10 million players and has seen the release of several DLCs, with the final expansion still in production.
