The 1/100 scale Gundam plastic model "MG (Master Grade)" series, released by Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Company's HOBBY Division, known for its excellent part separation, internal frame structure, and extensive articulation, has announced its latest product from "Gundam Sentinel", the "MG 1/100 Ex-S Gundam/S Gundam (Task Force α Ver.)", slated for release in July 2025. This product will be sold exclusively on Bandai's official online store, PREMIUM BANDAI.
Appearing in "Gundam Sentinel", the protagonist mobile suit MSA-0011 S Gundam is a prototype developed by the Earth Federation Forces concurrently with the ZZ Gundam. Its development goal was to create the "ultimate Gundam," a composite armament system surpassing existing mobile suits and weapon systems. The S Gundam is equipped with the artificial intelligence "ALICE," which not only assists the pilot in controlling the unit but is also expected to eventually replace the pilot, achieving "unmanned mobile suit" operation. Like the ZZ Gundam, the S Gundam also features a separable and combinable "Core Fighter System." However, the S Gundam can be further enhanced and expanded with different parts to suit mission requirements, transforming into the highly mobile "Ex-S Gundam" or even the monstrous, super-dreadnought "PLAN303E Deep Striker."
The "MG 1/100 Ex-S Gundam/S Gundam (Task Force α Ver.)" is a modified version of the "MG 1/100 Ex-S Gundam/S Gundam Ver. 1.5" kit released in 2019. Its part colors differ from the Refine version color scheme of Ver. 1.5, instead utilizing numerous new molding colors to recreate the "Task Force α" version color scheme, identical to Ver. 1.0. It also includes new water-slide decals to reproduce the original body marking designs.
Aside from the colors, the rest of the kit is identical to Ver. 1.5, incorporating a large number of new parts to refresh the Ver. 1.0's styling and improving the articulation design of certain joints. This allows a Gunpla kit originally released in 2003 to possess modern-standard, more faithful reproduction of mechanical designer KATOKI HAJIME's detailed drawings and articulation. By choosing to assemble different parts, both "S Gundam" and "Ex-S Gundam" forms can be recreated, and the separation and combination of the G-Core Fighter, G-Attacker, and G-Bomber, as well as the transformed "G-Cruiser" form, can also be reproduced!
The armament includes two movable beam cannons on the back, a beam smart gun, two beam sabers, and three sets of INCOMs. The disc-shaped radome of the beam smart gun has also had its molding color changed, and parts for both normal mode and rapid-fire equipment specifications can be selected. Coupled with a display base and dedicated hand parts, the classic pose of holding the gun horizontally in front can be recreated. Compared to Ver. 1.0, the INCOMs also feature more precise color separation and part division, and incorporate partial armor deployment mechanisms and new cable parts to reproduce their firing state!
