DC Comics has announced a new mature-rated "Red Hood" comic book series, launching in September 2025. The 17+ title will be penned by acclaimed American author Gretchen Felker-Martin and illustrated by Jeff Spokes. This new series promises a darker, more violent, and sexier take on the character, following Jason Todd's solitary battle after breaking away from the Batman family.
The story is set in the newly introduced fictional city of New Angelique, a metropolis plagued by corruption, crime, and moral decay. Jason, having abandoned Gotham, arrives in this rotten-to-the-core city with his suit, motorcycle, a metal briefcase full of dual pistols and ammunition, and his unwavering dedication to justice. While investigating a superpowered serial killer targeting police officers, he becomes entangled in a city-wide conspiracy.
However, another member of the Bat-Family is hot on Jason's trail: Helena Bertinelli, the Huntress. It remains unclear whether she intends to stop Red Hood or join him on his brutal path to justice.
Felker-Martin stated that the series will deliver "sweat, blood, and gunpowder, broken bones and mind control, a city rotting from the inside out." She emphasized that Jason will delve into hell to pursue a mysterious telepath, and readers will join him on this journey into purgatory.
"Red Hood" #1 is slated for release on September 10, 2025, featuring a main cover by Spokes, alongside various variant covers by artists including Jim Lee, Brian Bolland, and Jae Lee. Beginning with issue #2, Taurin Clarke will take over as the series' main cover artist.
