Renowned poster design and toy company MONDO has launched a new product based on the classic anime "Cowboy Bebop" (カウボーイビバップ) — the "Spike Spiegel" Limited Edition 1/8 Scale Articulated Figure. The suggested retail price is 770 JPY per draw, limited to 1000 units, and pre-orders will open on MONDO's official website on July 3, 2025, Central Time!
"Cowboy Bebop" is an original television anime series produced in 1998 by Sunrise and Bandai Visual, based on a concept by Hajime Yatate and directed by Shinichirō Watanabe. The story follows protagonists Spike (スパイク) and Jet (ジェット) as they make a living as bounty hunters in space aboard their spaceship, the Bebop. Later, they encounter Faye (フェイ), a beautiful woman burdened with massive debt, computer prodigy Ed (エド), and data dog Ein (アイン). Together, the group wanders the vast cosmos, searching for their respective pasts.
MONDO Creative Director Hector Arce stated that he is a huge fan of "Cowboy Bebop," and therefore, upon learning of the opportunity to create a Spike product, he knew it had to be a love letter to the series! This Spike Spiegel 1/8 scale articulated figure stands approximately 25.4 cm tall, faithfully recreating Spike's slender physique. The sculpting showcases his casual curly hair and the intricate folds of his suit, while his resolute gaze and nonchalant smile are also exquisitely reproduced!
The absolute highlight of this piece is undoubtedly the dazzling array of abundant accessories! In addition to the five sets of interchangeable hands, his Jericho 941 pistol weapon, the Swordfish II spaceship key, and an alternate head sculpt with a cigarette in his mouth, the standard version also includes the flamethrower Spike used to light his cigarette in Episode 11, "Toys in the Attic," a meat skewer, a tool belt, a net gun, and an alternate head sculpt wearing thermal goggles, allowing for the recreation of scenes where he captures mysterious space creatures!
The limited edition, furthermore, includes an interchangeable hand part for holding Ein, an alternate head sculpt featuring VT's cat, Zero (ゼロス), perched on Spike's head from Episode 07, "Heavy Metal Queen," and an alternate head sculpt depicting him wearing the trench coat and with a bleeding head from the TV anime's final episode, Episode 26, "The Real Folk Blues (Part 2)," allowing for the recreation of the classic scene where Spike descends the stairs, pressing his injured body after his decisive battle with Vicious! The selection of accessories truly conveys the team's immense love for the series, so all "Cowboy Bebop" fans and toy collectors absolutely must not miss out!
