Every generation gets its own Jane Austen adaptation. The much-adapted literary classic "Sense and Sensibility" is gearing up for a new screen version, with rising Irish star Daisy Edgar-Jones announced as the first cast member. Since gaining widespread acclaim for her lead role in the limited series "Normal People," Edgar-Jones has been in high demand, starring in buzzworthy projects like "Twisters" and "Where the Crawdads Sing." Now, she adds a Jane Austen adaptation to her growing resume.

This iteration of "Sense and Sensibility" will be directed by Georgia Oakley, who earned nominations at the Venice Film Festival, BAFTA, and the Gotham Independent Film Awards for her work on "Blue Jean." Novelist Diana Reid is penning the screenplay. Edgar-Jones is set to portray Elinor Dashwood, with casting for other roles yet to be announced.
This project marks the third collaboration between Focus Features and Working Title Films on a Jane Austen adaptation, following their successful productions of 2005's "Pride & Prejudice" and 2020's "Emma."
