BANDAI SPIRITS HOBBY Division's new Gunpla release, the "RG 1/144 Shining Gundam", originally scheduled for April 2025, has finally been released on June 28, 2025, after a two-month delay. Official new information, including product box art and actual sample images, has also been unveiled.
The GF13-017NJ Shining Gundam is the Mobile Fighter used by protagonist Domon Kasshu to represent Neo Japan in the 13th Gundam Fight. It features a design that prioritizes mobility while being well-balanced in both offense and defense. Utilizing various heat dissipation, deployment, and interlocking mechanisms throughout its body, it can fully unleash Domon's "School of the Undefeated of the East" martial arts. This mobile suit also possesses the ability to react to its pilot's emotions; when Domon's anger reaches a certain level, the Shining Gundam enters the even more powerful "Super Mode".
The "RG 1/144 Shining Gundam" kit is produced with a rich variety of molded part colors, including white, gray, dark gray, red, dark blue, yellow, gold, and metallic green. The gold parts utilize the latest "realistic metallic gloss injection" technology to achieve a more authentic metallic luster. The green hand parts, which recreate the special move "Shining Finger", also employ this same technology. Furthermore, the RG series' signature "Realistic Decals" can be used for the glowing parts such as the eyes and chest, as well as for the body markings.
The movable inner frame inherits the design of the previous "God Gundam", utilizing numerous multi-axis joints, pull-out joints, sliding mechanisms, and more throughout the body to achieve some of the best articulation in Gunpla history, allowing for cool martial arts poses that mimic human movements. The crotch frame features a hidden interface for display with separately sold action bases.
Regarding weapon accessories, the "Core Lander", which functions as a cockpit, escape pod, vehicle, and thruster, features detailed color separation and recreates the opening cockpit canopy, movable thrusters, and the mechanism for combining with the Shining Gundam main body. The forearm armor can deploy forward to recreate the firing state of the internal beam cannons. The beam sabers, normally stored on the left waist, come with two hilt lengths (long and short), and the beam effect parts can even have "G.GUNDAM" decals applied to recreate scenes from the opening animation.
The most significant feature of the "RG 1/144 Shining Gundam" is its complete transformation mechanism, requiring no part swapping. Through intricate movable segmentation, multiple armor parts across the entire body can deploy, allowing for the recreation of "Battle Mode" with the face and forearm armor deployed for the Shining Finger special move, as well as "Super Mode" with additional armor deployment on the shoulders, legs, and other areas, revealing the golden inner frame.
