In a major move, Amazon and MGM have reportedly tapped "Dune" series director Denis Villeneuve to helm the first film for the seventh official James Bond. A follow-up report from Puck News added that Villeneuve is currently signed for just one Bond picture, though Amazon and MGM would not rule out a sequel deal if the film is a success.
Furthermore, despite Villeneuve's critical acclaim and proven box office success, Amazon and MGM will reportedly not grant him final cut. This decision aligns with the long-standing tradition of the Bond franchise, where final editing authority has always rested with the producers rather than the director.

In a separate report, Variety noted that Amazon, MGM, and producers David Heyman and Amy Pascal are all keen on lowering the age standard for the next Bond. During the era when Eon Productions was in full control, the role was consistently awarded to actors in their early thirties. Now that Eon has sold creative leadership to Amazon and MGM, the new stakeholders are reportedly considering actors under the age of 30 for the iconic role.
According to the report, the current list of contenders being considered by Amazon and MGM includes Jacob Elordi, 28, Harris Dickinson, 29, and "Spider-Man" star Tom Holland, 29.

Variety also mentioned that "Fallout" director and producer Jonathan Nolan (pictured above), who was also a contender to direct, may potentially remain involved as a screenwriter. Amazon executives were said to be highly impressed with his original story pitch. However, other sources indicate that despite his strong partnership with Amazon on "Fallout," Nolan may now be too busy to take on writing duties for the Bond film.
