Bandai Spirits, a popular Japanese toy company, has announced the latest product from its popular special effects and monster-themed soft vinyl toy series, 『MOVIE MONSTER』: the "Leaping Godzilla (1971)" from the film "Godzilla vs. Hedorah," scheduled for release in July 2025.
《Godzilla vs. Hedorah》is the 11th film in the Godzilla series, released in 1971. The story addresses the contemporary issue of "pollution," depicting the confrontation between humans, Godzilla, and the pollution monster "Hedorah." Produced under numerous unfavorable conditions, such as the passing of special effects director Eiji Tsuburaya, the departure of many key Toho personnel, and a low production budget, the film has a unique, groundbreaking feel. Director Yoshimitsu Banno further incorporated social phenomena and issues like "psychedelic culture" and "youth identity," even adding innovative hand-drawn animation and a Godzilla flying sequence that would make Newton question physics.
The "MOVIE MONSTER Leaping Godzilla (1971)"立体化 (translates to "three-dimensionalized" or "rendered in 3D") the memorable scene from the film where Godzilla flies by jet propulsion, holding Hedorah and using his "atomic breath." Standing at a total height of 16 cm, it recreates Godzilla's J-shaped flying pose with closed eyes, and features rich color applications to reproduce Hedorah's vivid red eyes and industrial sludge-like body.
