David Corenswet, set to star as Superman in the upcoming DC Universe reboot film "Superman," recently addressed his views on Zack Snyder and Henry Cavill's previous interpretations during an exclusive interview with GQ.

He emphasized that he has never dismissed the darker tone established by the DCEU, viewing it instead as a demonstration of the character's versatility.
Since its 2013 release, Henry Cavill's portrayal of Superman in "Man of Steel" has been widely regarded as the darkest and most realistic iteration to date, sparking considerable debate among fans.
Back in a 2019 interview, Corenswet had expressed a desire to see a "brighter, more optimistic Superman" in the future. These comments have resurfaced for discussion now that his casting has been confirmed.
Addressing his past remarks, Corenswet stated, "I think that was the least interesting thing I've ever said. A character like Superman should allow different creators to explore different facets. Snyder and Cavill did an excellent job; they presented a version of Superman we had never seen on the big screen before."

He clarified that his intention was not to criticize the darker interpretation but rather to express hope that, following such a profound version, audiences would also have the opportunity to see a "sunnier, more nostalgic" take. He drew a parallel to Batman, noting that after the darker styles introduced by Nolan and Robert Pattinson, audiences began to yearn for the once humorous and exaggerated versions of the Caped Crusader.
Corenswet's statements not only demonstrate respect for his predecessors but also reflect his appreciation for diverse character interpretations. He believes the character will continue to evolve with the times and audience demands, and his version aims to open a new chapter for the DC Universe.
