Four decades after its 1985 big-screen debut, Robert E. Howard's legendary warrior Red Sonja—a character from the same creator as "Conan the Barbarian"—is set to return with a new adaptation next month. Distributor Samuel Goldwyn Films recently dropped the first trailer and a new promotional poster (pictured below).

The new "Red Sonja" is directed by M.J. Bassett, known for "Silent Hill: Revelation," with the screenplay penned by Tasha Huo, who serves as showrunner for the Netflix animated series "Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft." Italian actress Matilda Lutz stars as the titular Red Sonja, supported by a cast that includes Rhona Mitra, Robert Sheehan, and Wallis Day. The film is slated for a North American theatrical release on August 15, followed by a digital release on August 29.
The official synopsis reads: "A savage hunter, Red Sonja, is enslaved by an evil tyrant who seeks to annihilate her people. She must unite an unlikely group of warriors to take on the mighty Dragan and his deadly bride, Dark Annisia."
