TOMIX, the railway model brand under TOMYTEC (a subsidiary of Japan's TAKARA TOMY), will release the "JR 500-7000 Series Sanyo Shinkansen (500 TYPE EVA)" train model as part of its "First Car Museum" series, which produces various locomotive models. The suggested retail price is 5,069 JPY, and it is scheduled for release in January 2026!
The 500 Series 7000 sub-series is a modified version of the original 500 Series, used for "Kodama" (こだま) local services between Shin-Osaka and Hakata since 2008, operating with shorter 8-car formations. One of these formations participated in the "Shinkansen: EVA Project" from autumn 2015 to March 2017, featuring a special exterior design themed after Evangelion Unit-01 from "Neon Genesis Evangelion". The interior also included themed displays and photo areas, making it extremely popular among fans!
This "JR 500-7000 Series Sanyo Shinkansen (500 TYPE EVA)" model faithfully recreates the locomotive with its Unit-01 color scheme as an N-gauge railway model. The headlights and taillights can be illuminated using separately sold FM-017 power modules, power units, and D.C. feeder cables. The headlights feature warm white LEDs, while the taillights use red LED illumination. Both headlights and taillights are equipped with constant lighting circuit boards. It also includes a straight track S158.5 (F), allowing it to be connected with existing Fine Track series or displayed directly!
