BANDAI SPIRITS HOBBY Division from Japan is set to release the latest product from the Macross series, the 'HG (High Grade) 1/100 scale' plastic model kit, 'HG 1/100 VF-31C Siegfried (Mirage Farina Jenius Custom)', in October 2025. This product will be simultaneously launched in a standard edition and a more luxurious DX edition with additional accessories.
The VF-31 Siegfried is a variable fighter used by the 'Delta Platoon,' a variable fighter unit belonging to the civilian corporate conglomerate 'Chaos' in the series, tasked with escorting the musical group 'Walküre.' This model is an enhanced version of the VF-31 Kairos. In addition to a rich array of armaments such as anti-air beam machine guns, railguns, and assault knives, it is also equipped with a FOLD wave system and multi-functional drones like 'Cygnus,' enabling it to perform missions alongside 'Walküre,' transmitting their songs and calming patients rampaging due to 'Valkyrie Syndrome' outbreaks.
The 'HG 1/100 VF-31C Siegfried (Mirage Farina Jenius Custom)' is based on the previously released Hayate Custom, utilizing the latest technology to create the model piloted by one of the heroines, Mirage. Through precise color separation and part division techniques, it faithfully reproduces the aircraft's cool proportions and high-density detailed sculpting in 1/100 scale. Furthermore, insert molding technology is employed to achieve the magenta lines and color blocks on the white fuselage and wing parts.
Additionally, it includes five-layer structure decals made with aluminum vapor deposition on PET film, featuring extreme thinness, high opacity, and vibrant color reproduction. These allow for easy replication of numerous aircraft markings, making the model appear more realistic.
By replacing some parts, the three transformation stages of FIGHTER, GERWALK, and BATTROID can be reproduced. The complex transformation structure has been simplified to achieve flexible articulation, while also allowing each form to closely match the designs in the setting illustrations. The cockpit canopy in FIGHTER mode can be opened and closed to insert a pilot figure, and it is made with a polarizing material that changes color depending on the reflection angle. The bottom parts can be replaced to display the landing gear in its deployed state.
The stored head in FIGHTER and GERWALK modes, and the complete head in BATTROID mode, all utilize newly sculpted parts to reproduce a different design from the Hayate Custom. In BATTROID mode, due to the simplified transformation mechanism, the entire body's movable joints retain a flexible range of motion, allowing for the replacement of various hand parts and holding two assault knives and a beam gun pod to recreate cool combat poses.
The more luxurious 'DX Edition' includes not only the standard model kit but also newly drawn illustrations by Chisato Mita (CAPCOM), who was responsible for the character original designs of Macross Delta. These additions include a 'Makina Nakajima Double-Sided Illustration Acrylic Stand' and 'Makina Nakajima Water-Slide Decals.'
