The highly anticipated sequel to the video game adaptation, "Mortal Kombat II," has finally unleashed its official first trailer and a slew of individual character posters (see below) tonight. This follows the earlier release of a 'fake' teaser trailer for new character Johnny Cage, played by "The Boys" star Karl Urban .
Simon McQuoid, director of the first film, returns to helm the sequel, with the screenplay penned by Jeremy Slater, known as the showrunner for Netflix's "The Umbrella Academy" and Marvel's "Moon Knight." The film is slated for an October 24 release in North America. The story continues the deadly Mortal Kombat tournament, where if Earthrealm loses ten consecutive matches, Shao Kahn will invade and conquer the planet.

Returning cast members for the sequel include Lewis Tan as Cole Young, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Tadanobu Asano as Raiden, and Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, among others. New additions to the cast include Tati Gabrielle as Jade, Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn, Ana Thu Nguyen as Queen Sindel, and Desmond Chiam as King Jerrod.
