Last February, Deadline reported that acclaimed fantasy director Tim Burton was developing a new remake of the 1958 sci-fi classic "Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman." Now, renowned entertainment journalist Jeff Sneider has followed up on his paid blog, The InSneider, reporting that Margot Robbie has quietly joined the project as both its star and a producer.

"Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman" was one of many films capitalizing on Hollywood's 1950s craze for "body enlargement" and "shrinking" themes. The story follows Nancy, who, after an unexpected close encounter with a giant alien crash-landing on Earth, undergoes a genetic mutation that causes her body to progressively grow to immense size. Nancy's transformation further exacerbates the already tumultuous challenges in her marriage.
HBO previously remade the film as a TV movie in 1993, starring "Kill Bill" actress Daryl Hannah. However, Burton's new iteration is slated for a theatrical release. The script was initially being penned by Gillian Flynn, author of "Gone Girl." Due to her busy schedule, she was unable to return for subsequent drafts, and the studio is now actively searching for a new writer to take over.
