CD Projekt RED Shoots Down 'Cyberpunk 2077' Third-Person Mode Hopes: "No Plans"

Polish game developer CD Projekt RED has officially addressed fan requests for a third-person mode in "Cyberpunk 2077," unequivocally stating there are "no such plans" at present. This announcement has ignited considerable debate within the player community.

Since its launch, "Cyberpunk 2077" has centered its core gameplay experience around a first-person perspective. However, a significant portion of the player base has consistently expressed a desire to explore Night City and admire their character's customization and animations from a third-person view. The recent release of the substantial 2.3 update, which spurred a resurgence of returning players, reignited these long-standing hopes for a third-person option.

The official "Cyberpunk 2077" account responded directly to a fan query on X (formerly Twitter) about the possibility of a third-person camera in a future update:

This isn't the first time players have voiced their desire for a third-person perspective in "Cyberpunk 2077." Early after the game's release, modders created fan-made solutions for PC players. However, continuous game updates have led to significant compatibility issues for many of these mods, with numerous becoming broken or unusable, particularly following the 2.3 patch.

For players eagerly awaiting official support, this news is undoubtedly a letdown. Nevertheless, some are now shifting their hopes to the upcoming "Cyberpunk 2." CD Projekt RED has already confirmed that preliminary development for the sequel is in progress. While no release timeline has been announced, many speculate that the next installment, which will likely retain the open-world design, could potentially offer different camera perspectives.

Beyond "Cyberpunk 2," the development team is also heavily invested in the production of "The Witcher 4," the next installment in "The Witcher" series. Juggling two major IPs concurrently presents a significant challenge, requiring CD Projekt RED to carefully balance its resources and creative efforts.

While a third-person perspective appears unlikely in the immediate future, its potential inclusion in the "Cyberpunk" franchise's long-term plans remains a point of interest for fans.
