Director Gurinder Chadha recently revealed to Deadline that a "Bend It Like Beckham" sequel is officially in development. Original cast members — Knightley, Archie Panjabi, and Juliet Stevenson — are aware of the project and are keen on a reunion. However, they have not yet committed to returning, preferring to wait for the script's completion before making a decision.
Chadha admitted that the growing global support for women's football in recent years inspired her to consider a "Bend It Like Beckham" film or TV series sequel over the past two years. She hopes to complete production on the sequel by 2027, timing it with the film's 25th anniversary to maximize promotional buzz.
