Julia Roberts has starred in countless beloved romantic comedies, cementing her status as the undisputed rom-com queen of the 1990s. Yet, she has never returned for a sequel to any of her iconic films—a trend that may soon be broken for one particular classic. Dermot Mulroney, who co-starred with Roberts 28 years ago in "My Best Friend's Wedding," recently revealed that a sequel to the hit film is now in development.

Mulroney, currently promoting his new Netflix series "The Hunting Wives," told The New York Post that a second "My Best Friend's Wedding" film is indeed on the horizon. "I don't know anything about it, but the last I heard, the lawyers were talking," Mulroney stated, implying that contract negotiations and salary discussions are underway.
While Roberts is famously selective about reprising roles for sequels, she has previously cited "My Best Friend's Wedding" as the one film she would most like to see get a follow-up. If the script meets her approval, Roberts could very well agree to return.
Following Mulroney's interview, Collider further reported that acclaimed director Celine Song, who garnered significant buzz for her recent romantic dramas "Past Lives" and "Materialists," has been tapped to write the script for the sequel.
