WB Games Montréal Reportedly Developing New DC Multiplayer Live-Service Game; Studio Undeterred by Past Failures

WB Games Montréal, the studio behind "Batman: Arkham Origins" and "Gotham Knights", is reportedly developing a new, unannounced DC Comics-themed multiplayer live-service game.

According to a job listing discovered by ResetEra, the studio is seeking an Executive Producer with operational experience to oversee the development and post-launch operations of this new DC title.

The job description explicitly states that the role will contribute to the overall live-service game strategy, future content updates, and testing phase planning. While specific characters or game types haven't been revealed, industry observers speculate the project will leverage WB Montréal's expertise in open-world action games.

This news has garnered significant attention from players, largely due to the recent critical reception of DC's "Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League", a live-service title released in 2024.

Developed by Rocksteady, the game marked the studio's return after nine years. While it featured a decent storyline, the gameplay was criticized for shoehorning in a "looter-shooter" mechanic and a seasonal update model, ultimately leading to the premature termination of post-launch support.

Despite the setback with "Suicide Squad", Warner Bros. evidently remains committed to the live-service genre. However, players are widely concerned that the same mistakes could be repeated. Based on the current job postings, WB Montréal has not yet disclosed the game's theme or whether it will collaborate with other studios. Given the team's past work, the new title is likely to again emphasize action-oriented gameplay and a long-term update model.

Interestingly, following the box office success of films featuring Superman, which have surpassed $500 million, the loudest calls from fans have been for a single-player Superman game. However, there are currently no indications that WB Montréal intends to develop such a project.

Furthermore, rumors suggest that DC Studios has recently expressed an openness to developing competitive games similar to "Marvel Rivals". Whether this new project will take a similar direction remains to be seen.
