If you caught "Thunderbolts*", you know its post-credits scene laid groundwork for "The Fantastic Four: First Steps," teasing the arrival of the Fantastic Four from Earth-828 into the main Earth-616 universe. Many viewers therefore expected "First Steps" to explain the team's multiversal journey, yet the film made no mention of it, even after the credits rolled.

While some might have speculated about a larger Marvel Studios plan, "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" director Matt Shakman recently offered a more straightforward reason in an interview with Cinema Blend. He explained that the "Thunderbolts*" post-credits scene was created much later in his development process for "First Steps," so he wasn't familiar with it. "When I was writing the script, that scene hadn't even been conceived yet," Shakman stated. "I often use the analogy of a relay race. I'm responsible for passing the baton, running my leg of the race as fast as I can, trying to make the Earth-828 version of 'Fantastic Four' as good as possible. Then I pass the baton, and this time, it's to the Russo Brothers."
Shakman's remarks clarify that the "First Steps" script was finalized early, while the "Thunderbolts*" post-credits scene was conceived much later, making it impossible for him to revise his script to integrate that specific connection.
