The popular action figure series『S.H.Figuarts』, released by TAMASHII NATIONS, the collector's toy division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Co., Ltd., has announced its latest product from the Tokusatsu《Ultraman》series, "Volcanic Monster Bird Birdon," scheduled for release in February 2026.
First appearing in Episode 17 of 1973's《Ultraman Taro》, the Volcanic Monster Bird "Birdon" is an Earth monster that emerged with the eruption of Mount Okuma. Its ferocious nature led it to prey on humans and livestock. Utilizing its sharp beak and 40,000-degree flames spewed from its mouth, it successively killed Ultraman Taro and Zoffy. It took three episodes for the revived Taro to finally defeat it, making it one of the strongest Earth-type monsters and one of the most iconic in the entire series at the time.
The "S.H.Figuarts Volcanic Monster Bird Birdon" was produced with the assistance of Tsuburaya Productions' LSS modeling department. With an articulated specification standing approximately 155mm tall, it extensively recreates the suit's appearance from the show, meticulously detailing its sharp beak, massive wings, venom sacs hanging from both sides of its mouth, and fur on its limbs. It is also adorned with rich color applications including red, blue, and gray, faithfully reproducing Birdon's characteristic vibrant body color.
The entire body also features precise articulation divisions and flexible joint designs. The shoulders utilize pull-out joints, both left and right arms boast 6-axis articulation, and the dorsal hump and venom sacs on either side of the mouth all have independent articulation mechanisms. This allows for dynamic and flexible flying poses from the show to be recreated without compromising the integrity of the sculpt. Accessories include a flame effect part and a head-on-fire effect part for use with the separately sold「S.H.Figuarts Zoffy」, enabling the recreation of the iconic scene where Birdon overwhelms both Ultramen.
