Netflix announced yesterday that its original K-pop fantasy musical film, "K-Pop: Demon Hunters," which premiered late last month, had become the most-watched animated feature film in the platform's history. Today, however, The Wrap exclusively reported that Netflix is already actively planning the future of "K-Pop: Demon Hunters," aiming to expand it into a major multi-platform IP to capitalize on its unexpected global popularity.

According to The Wrap, Netflix is currently considering developing a stage musical, a live-action remake, a spin-off series, and two animated feature film sequels for "K-Pop: Demon Hunters." The outlet reported that Netflix executives believe the film has achieved a "Frozen"-level phenomenon and plans to emulate Disney's "Frozen" strategy of producing short films to maintain IP buzz and serve as a bridge to future sequels.

Reportedly, Netflix initially did not anticipate "K-Pop: Demon Hunters" to become such a massive hit, and therefore had not planned extensive merchandise or brand collaborations. It was only after its breakout success that they ramped up promotional efforts in this area. Furthermore, Netflix holds all rights to "K-Pop: Demon Hunters," meaning that even if producer Sony Pictures Animation chose not to participate in future IP development, Netflix could still make decisions regarding the franchise without Sony's consent. However, sources cited by The Wrap indicate that both parties are eager to continue their collaboration.
