Japan's official Gunpla flagship store, GUNDAM BASE, has announced that the latest limited-edition product from the manga "Mobile Suit MOON Gundam," the "HG 1/144 Varguil (Gundam Head & Psycho Plate Equipped Type)," will be released on August 23, 2025.
The AMS-123X Varguil is a Newtype-exclusive commander unit secretly developed by Neo Zeon. This mobile suit, equipped with a next-generation psycho-frame system, served as the prototype for Char's later personal unit, the "MSN-04 Sazabi." Its armor is constructed from Gundarium alloy and features a purple paint scheme. With numerous thrusters and a lightweight frame, it boasts exceptional mobility and agility. Six psycho-controlled funnels are mounted on its back. In "Mobile Suit MOON Gundam," this damaged unit was repaired using the head and psycho plates from the "Psycho-Frame Gundam Mk-IV G-Doors," subsequently becoming the protagonist's mobile suit, the "MOON Gundam."
The "HG 1/144 Varguil (Gundam Head & Psycho Plate Equipped Type)" is a modification of the previously released "HG 1/144 MOON Gundam." The main body retains the Varguil's original molding colors, while the head and psycho plate parts are changed to the original colors of the "Psycho-Frame Gundam Mk-IV G-Doors." This faithfully recreates the transitional phase in the series after emergency repairs, before it was painted in the MOON Gundam's colors.
Aside from the molding colors and stickers, the overall specifications are identical to the "HG 1/144 MOON Gundam." It boasts exceptional part separation, color accuracy, intricate detail sculpting, and articulation design for an HG series kit, with nearly complete movable frame structures in both legs. Armaments include a Beam Tomahawk, Beam Rifle, a foldable Beam Butterfly Knife, and eight psycho plates mounted on the back. The psycho plates can be freely combined and reconfigured using their connectors, and can even be equipped on the arms for close-quarters combat.
