Released by the HOBBY Division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Co., Ltd., the Gunpla "RG (Real Grade)" series, which incorporates exterior armor, internal frames, interlocking armor, and new technologies into the 1/144 scale, has announced the latest product from "Mobile Suit Gundam," the "RG 1/144 G-3 Gundam Ver.2.0," scheduled for release in September 2025. This product will be exclusively sold on Bandai's official online store, PREMIUM BANDAI.
The RX-78-3 G-3 Gundam is the third unit in the RX-78 Gundam series in the novel version of "Mobile Suit Gundam." After a fierce battle with Elmeth, protagonist Amuro Ray's RX-78-2 Gundam Unit 2 was half-destroyed. He then transferred to the G-3 Gundam to participate in the Battle of A Baoa Qu until his death. The appearance of this unit is fundamentally the same as Unit 2, but the machine's color scheme adopts a gray and white paint job. Furthermore, the frame's drive sections were treated with a magnetic coating to reduce friction between parts and enhance movement speed.
The "RG 1/144 G-3 Gundam Ver.2.0" is a modification based on the previously released "RG 1/144 RX-78-2 Gundam Ver.2.0." Circular exterior parts for multiple joints, including the elbows, knees, and ankles, utilize newly molded parts to faithfully recreate the magnetic coating design. The entire kit's molded colors have also been significantly revised to reproduce the G-3 Gundam's characteristic gray, white, and gray-blue armor. Additionally, it comes with dedicated realistic decal stickers, capable of replicating metallic textures and markings on various parts of the fuselage.
Other specifications are identical to the RX-78-2 Gundam Ver.2.0, featuring a precisely designed movable internal frame structure at 1/144 scale. It can be assembled layer by layer, from the movable frame and truss to the exterior armor, and utilizes precise part separation and color molding technology to provide distinct color differentiation and rich layering for different sections of the parts. Weapon accessories include two beam sabers, a beam rifle, a shield, and a Hyper Bazooka, each boasting precise sculpting and movable mechanisms, and capable of being mounted on various parts of the fuselage.
The articulation adopts a design where "all visible joints can reliably bend," expressing the realism of mechanical structure operation. Parts like the thigh armor feature interlocking structures that slide as the joints bend, while the front shin armor has an independent movable design, allowing for more natural and fluid movements. Simultaneously, within this structure, the Core Fighter is still housed in the abdomen, and through a newly developed auxiliary joint mechanism, the Gundam can also achieve flexible abdominal articulation, and the Core Fighter can separate from the Gundam and transform into a fighter jet.
