Years later, on celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay's show "Scrambled," Holland revisited the memorable act, revealing a hilarious behind-the-scenes detail: those attention-grabbing fishnet stockings actually belonged to his grandmother.
Holland explained that he and then-girlfriend Zendaya were both participating in the taping, and they had a verbal agreement to "keep it chill" and avoid overly extravagant performances. However, as rehearsals progressed, Holland and the creative team pushed the boundaries further. What began as an idea for "Singin' in the Rain" evolved into a surprise transition to "Umbrella," complete with rain effects and a quick costume change. Ultimately, Holland took the stage in a mini-dress, a wig, and his grandmother's black fishnets, delivering a challenging dance that stunned the entire audience.
"At that point, I was like, 'Screw it, I'm going to wear fishnets, I'm going to wear a wig, I'm going to do a quick change,'" Holland recalled with a laugh. When Ramsay asked if the fishnets were his mother's, Holland candidly responded, "They were actually my grandmother's."
Interestingly, Holland's father had urged him to reconsider the performance after learning about it. "My dad said, 'Son, I don't think this is a good idea. You really shouldn't do this,'" Holland shared.
