Chris Hemsworth Clarifies Marvel Future, Denies Retirement; Reveals Disney Canceled Risky Stunt to Protect "Thor" Role

Chris Hemsworth, who has embodied Thor for over 15 years, recently told "The Hollywood Reporter" that Disney intervened to protect his future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, rejecting a high-risk stunt he planned for his upcoming series. This move signals that his time as the God of Thunder is far from over.

The controversy arose from a proposed challenge for the second season of his National Geographic series, "Limitless: Live Better Now": surfing 40-foot waves. This high-stakes plan was ultimately rejected by executives, who deemed the risk too great, fearing it could jeopardize his future Marvel filming schedule.

Hemsworth admitted that Disney's risk assessment deemed the surfing challenge too dangerous, leading him to instead climb a 200-meter-high dam. He noted that while both activities carried risks, the dam climb was ultimately approved.

Furthermore, Hemsworth addressed speculation surrounding a retrospective video he posted on social media, which many interpreted as a "farewell to Thor." He clarified that the video was merely a moment of gratitude that was "misunderstood as me retiring," stating he was already embarking on a new chapter for the character at the time. He stressed that no crisis management was necessary, as there are many more Thor stories yet to be told.

Hemsworth is confirmed to return for the upcoming "Avengers: Secret Wars," and a potential "Thor 5" is already in early development. While director Taika Waititi has indicated he won't be involved, Hemsworth has previously voiced his desire to "reshape" the character, moving away from the overly comedic tone seen in "Thor: Love and Thunder."
