Video game adaptations are currently experiencing a boom, with a flurry of projects in production. The latest classic to join this trend is the iconic arcade game "Space Invaders".
Deadline exclusively reported today that New Line Cinema, the studio behind "The Lord of the Rings" franchise, is developing a live-action "Space Invaders" film. The studio has tapped Ben Zazove and Evan Turner, the writing duo behind the Netflix comedy "The Out-Laws", to pen the screenplay. Turner also previously produced the "Journey" film series for New Line.

Academy Award-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman, known for "A Beautiful Mind" and "Constantine", will produce through his company Weed Road Pictures. Joby Harold, co-writer of "Army of the Dead", and his producing partner and wife Tory Tunnell will also produce via their company Safehouse Pictures. A director for the project has not yet been announced.
