Japanese company PLEX (株式会社プレックス) is expanding its "GODZILLA VINYL ART" series, a collaboration with various sofubi artists. Alongside the previously announced "GVA-BC Hedorah Frog Tree Standard Version," they've now unveiled another exciting new release: the "GVA-BC Hedorah Frog Tree Burning Red Version." Both figures are priced at 28,000 JPY (MSRP) and will be available for pre-order starting today, July 19th, until September 11, 2025, with an estimated release in October 2025!
Hedorah, the infamous Smog Monster, first appeared in the 1971 film "Godzilla vs. Hedorah." Originally an extraterrestrial mineral, it transformed into a pollution-fueled kaiju after absorbing excessive industrial waste. While Hedorah was depicted as a dark, foul-smelling waste creature in the movie, various colorful Hedorah sofubi figures were released post-film to cater to overseas toy markets and production cost considerations. Collectors who love sofubi are undoubtedly familiar with Hedorah's vibrant, multi-colored iterations!
This latest GVA series collaboration with Frog Tree not only offers a standard version inspired by Hedorah's film appearance but also introduces this stunning Burning Red version, evoking a powerful inferno! The sofubi figure stands approximately 22.5 cm tall. Built upon the same sculpt as the standard release, Frog Tree reinterprets Hedorah with their signature Japanese aesthetic. It features a deep, subdued red as its base, with additional spray applications to deepen certain details, creating a mesmerizing visual effect akin to flowing magma. The metallic paint used for the eyes further enriches the overall color depth, exquisitely capturing the apocalyptic vision of Hedorah cloaked in flames!
