The official synopsis reveals: "While seeking refuge in Macau, Lord Durr plunges into a life of round-the-clock gambling and heavy drinking, squandering his last remaining funds. He quickly spirals into a crushing debt, only to find an unlikely savior in Daoming, a casino employee with a mysterious past and a hidden agenda. Meanwhile, private detective Cynthia Bly relentlessly pursues Durr, determined to expose the truths he desperately tries to evade. As Durr searches for redemption, reality closes in like a tightening cage, leaving him with no escape."

The film features a stellar cast including Fala Chen, Deannie Yip, Colin Farrell, and Tilda Swinton. "Ballad of a Small Player" is slated for a limited theatrical release in the UK, Germany, and the US starting October 15, before its global premiere on Netflix on October 29.
