From Japanese model manufacturer GOOD SMILE COMPANY's mechanical-themed brand MECHA SMILE, the completed transformable toy series "THE GATTAI" has officially announced its latest product, "Black Wing," from the classic robot anime "Super Beast Machine God Dancouga," slated for release in May 2026.
Appearing in episode 10 of the anime, "Black Wing" is the personal unit of Black Knight Squadron leader Alan Igor. This fighter, developed solely by Alan, does not feature the "Wild System" like the four Beast Machines that form Dancouga, but it can similarly transform from fighter mode to humanoid mode, possessing formidable combat capabilities on its own. In the series, Alan piloted this machine multiple times to rescue the Beast Machine Squadron from peril. Originally, Black Wing had no combination mechanism in the anime's setting; it wasn't until the game "Super Robot Wars GC," released many years after the anime concluded, that Black Wing was able to combine with Dancouga to form "Ultimate Dancouga."
"THE GATTAI Black Wing" is produced based on the latest design sketches by designer Masami Obari. In its raptor-like fighter mode, it boasts an impressive wingspan of 42.5 cm, and through a complete transformation mechanism, it can recreate its 20 cm tall humanoid mode. The overall exterior features high-density detailed sculpting, and it comes with a "Black Knight Squadron Emblem" part, intricately engraved with a cavalry pattern, which can be attached to the chest. For the head, users can choose between two styles: the "TV Anime Version" or the "Humanoid Face Under Mask Version."
The model features a complete transformation mechanism that requires no part swapping, recreating both fighter mode and humanoid mode transformations. In humanoid mode, it boasts flexible articulated joint designs, allowing for dynamic combat poses, and it also includes a newly designed "Lance" weapon by Masami Obari for equipping.
After transforming the main unit, combine it with the separately sold "THE GATTAI HAGANE WORKS Dancouga" to complete the phantom enhanced form, "Ultimate Dancouga," which never appeared in the anime. It includes an even larger "Dancouga Kouga Ken" part to recreate the pose for unleashing its special move, and the nose section can also open left and right to reproduce the firing state of the "Ultimate Dancouga Cannon." Furthermore, the product features an original "THE GATTAI" mechanism, allowing the "Supreme Dancouga" (the combination of Dancouga and Daikyoryu) to wield Black Wing as a weapon.
