Colin Farrell and Margot Robbie are currently busy promoting their new co-starring film, "A Big Bold Beautiful Journey." In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly (EW), the two not only discussed their shared experience of playing villains from "Batman" comics, but also discovered a surprising connection between their respective DC films.
Farrell, who portrayed Penguin in Robert Pattinson's "The Batman" series, and Robbie, who played Harley Quinn in the DC Extended Universe, first noted that they had never discussed this before, only bringing it up for the first time during this interview. Robbie then revealed that "Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)," a film she starred in, was originally slated to feature Penguin as its main antagonist.

Farrell was reportedly surprised by this revelation. Robbie then explained the reason for the change to Black Mask: "Matt Reeves [director of Pattinson's 'The Batman' series] later said, 'Don't put Penguin in your movie; I want him in mine.' So we switched to Black Mask." Reeves subsequently cast Farrell as Penguin in "The Batman."
It wasn't just a fleeting idea to include Penguin as the villain in "Birds of Prey"; he had actually been written into the script. This piqued Farrell's curiosity about how Penguin was originally portrayed in the "Birds of Prey" script. He asked Robbie if she still had the old script files, and she agreed to send them to him for review.
