Esteemed entertainment journalist Jeff Sneider exclusively reported this morning on his blog, The InSneider, that Warner Bros. is developing a biographical film about Kobe Bryant titled "With the 8th Pick." However, this project is not a traditional biopic; rather, it's described as a draft-day drama. The story will primarily unfold during the two weeks leading up to the 1996 NBA Draft, where Bryant was famously selected 13th overall by the Los Angeles Lakers.

The film's title, "With the 8th Pick," refers to the New Jersey Nets' general manager, John Nash, who held the eighth overall pick in that draft. The narrative will reportedly center on Nash and incoming coach John Calipari, who were closely tracking Bryant in the days leading up to the draft. The screenplay is penned by Alex Sohn and Gavin Johannsen. A director, cast, and release date have yet to be announced.
