Japanese manga artist Naoki Urasawa's classic work "MONSTER" is set in Germany around the time of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The story begins with Kenzo Tenma, a genius Japanese neurosurgeon, defying the hospital director's orders to save a young boy named Johan who was shot in the head, thus embarking on a journey to discover "where the monster came from..." The pivotal picture book within the story, used to brainwash children, "The Nameless Monster," tells of two nameless monsters who go their separate ways in search of their names. The monster who went east gained names by entering others' bodies, but he was never satisfied, repeatedly devouring the owners of those names and turning back into a monster.
