DC Studios co-CEO and "Superman" director James Gunn recently confirmed in an interview that Xolo Maridueña's Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle will join the new DCU in a "very fitting" manner, requiring minimal changes to continue his appearances, much like "Peacemaker."
Gunn explained in an interview with Rotten Tomatoes that "Peacemaker" originally existed in a "transitional universe." While connected to the DCEU, it lacked overall planning, which allowed its storyline to develop relatively independently.
He admitted that while the show's ending was very bold, it didn't fully align with the DCU's ultimate direction. However, this actually facilitated an easier transition for the character.
"‘Peacemaker’ pretty much just slides right in, and the same goes for ‘Blue Beetle’ — we just need to make some minor adjustments to the settings," Gunn stated. 
While "Blue Beetle" didn't break global box office records, its practical effects, strong family dynamics, and humorous style still garnered praise from many viewers, establishing it as one of the best-performing films from the previous DC era. Many fans are highly anticipating the character's continuation, believing it will contribute significantly to the DCU's diverse development.
Notably, "Blue Beetle"'s character positioning also highly aligns with Gunn's overarching vision for the universe. Tonally, Gunn's DCU shares many similarities with the "Justice League International" era of the comics, where the second Blue Beetle, Ted Kord, was a central figure. This suggests that Jaime Reyes's inclusion could pave the way for more expansive storylines for the team. 
Furthermore, Xolo Maridueña himself has hinted that a "Blue Beetle" sequel might be in the works. What is confirmed is that he will reprise his role as the young superhero, lending his voice to an as-yet-untitled animated series.
While specific details are still awaiting official announcement, Blue Beetle's "seamless integration" is clearly a done deal. For fans, this isn't just a continuation of the character but also symbolizes the new DC Universe's more robust approach to incorporating the best elements of previous works, moving towards a fully cohesive blueprint.
