As James Gunn and Peter Safran's new DCU unfolds, "The Brave and the Bold" has emerged as one of the most anticipated projects. This film will reboot the Batman series, focusing on the father-son relationship between Bruce Wayne and his son Damian Wayne, while also introducing the full "Bat-Family."
However, before DC Studios officially kicks off casting, an actor with deep ties to DC has already voiced his personal aspirations. That actor is Tyler Hoechlin, known for portraying Superman in the "Arrowverse" series "Supergirl" and "Superman & Lois."
During the "Men of Steel" panel at FAN EXPO Canada, when asked about Robert Pattinson's "The Batman" and its potential integration into the new DCU, Hoechlin gave an unexpected response: "Well, if I'm being selfish, I'd say no, because I still want to play Batman."
Hoechlin also emphasized his admiration for Pattinson's work and director Matt Reeves' vision, believing their "The Batman" universe should remain independent. However, he still hopes for an opportunity to tackle the role of Bruce Wayne in Gunn's DCU iteration.
Since his debut as Superman in "Supergirl" in 2016, Hoechlin has repeatedly portrayed the Man of Steel, becoming central to "Superman & Lois" until its conclusion in 2024. During his tenure, he showcased Superman as a father, leading some to suggest he wouldn't be ill-suited to portray Batman's father-son dynamic with Damian in "The Brave and the Bold."
DC Studios has already clarified that Pattinson's Batman will remain in the standalone "Elseworlds" storyline, separate from the main DCU. This confirms that "The Brave and the Bold" will feature a brand-new Bruce Wayne, opening the door for Hoechlin and other potential candidates.
While it remains to be seen who DC Studios will ultimately choose to don the cowl and cape, Hoechlin's public declaration has certainly made him a contender in fan discussions.
