The HOBBY Division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Company has announced the latest product in the "Macross" series of "HG (High Grade) 1/100 Scale" plastic models, the "VF-31S Siegfried (Arad Mölders Custom)" from the anime "Macross Delta," slated for release in January 2026. This product will be simultaneously released in a standard version and a more luxurious DX version with additional accessories.
The VF-31 Siegfried is a variable fighter used by the "Delta Platoon," a variable fighter unit belonging to the civilian corporate conglomerate "Chaos" in the series, for escorting the musical group "Walküre." This model is an enhanced version of the VF-31 Kairos. In addition to a rich array of armaments such as anti-air beam machine guns, railguns, and assault knives, it is also equipped with a FOLD wave system and multi-functional drones like "Cygnus," enabling it to perform missions alongside "Walküre," transmitting their songs and calming patients rampaging due to "Valkyrie Syndrome."
The "HG 1/100 VF-31S Siegfried" released this time is the personal unit of Delta Platoon leader, Arad Mölders. The kit is a modification of previously released models of the same type, utilizing precise color separation and part division techniques to faithfully reproduce the aircraft's cool proportions and high-density detailed sculpting in 1/100 scale. Furthermore, insert molding technology is used to achieve the green lines and color blocks on the white fuselage and wing parts. It also includes five-layer structure decals made with aluminum vapor deposition on PET film, characterized by extreme thinness, high opacity, and vibrant color reproduction, allowing for easy recreation of numerous aircraft markings, making the model appear even more realistic.
By swapping some parts, the three-stage transformation into FIGHTER, GERWALK, and BATTROID modes can be recreated. This simplifies the complex transformation structure, resulting in flexible articulation while allowing each mode to closely match the designs from the setting illustrations. In FIGHTER mode, the cockpit canopy can be opened and closed to insert a pilot figure, and it is made from a polarizing material that changes color depending on the reflection angle. The bottom parts can be swapped to reproduce the landing gear deployed state.
The head stored in FIGHTER and GERWALK modes, and the complete head for BATTROID mode, all utilize newly sculpted parts to reproduce a different design from Hayate's unit. In BATTROID mode, due to the simplified transformation mechanism, the entire body's movable joints retain a flexible range of motion. Various interchangeable hand parts are included, allowing it to hold two assault knives and a beam gun pod, enabling dynamic and cool combat poses.
The more luxurious "DX Version" includes not only the standard model kit but also adds a newly drawn "Mikumo Guynemer Double-Sided Illustration Acrylic Stand" and "Mikumo Guynemer Water-Slide Decals" by Chisato Mita (CAPCOM), who was responsible for the character original designs of "Macross Delta."
