Chris Columbus, currently busy promoting his new Netflix mystery film "The Thursday Murder Club," has once again found himself fielding questions about the "Harry Potter" franchise. The director, who helmed the first two installments of the beloved film series, recently shared his thoughts on the ongoing "Harry Potter" television adaptation. In a separate interview with The Times, Columbus discussed his long-standing desire to return and adapt the stage play sequel, "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child," for the big screen.

Columbus has mentioned several times over the years his keen interest in reuniting the original cast for a "Cursed Child" film. However, he now laments that the significant ideological rift between J.K. Rowling's views on transgender issues and those of many actors from the series has made such a reunion impossible. "It's never going to happen," he stated, "The political aspect has made things too complicated. Everyone in the cast has their own opinions, and they differ from hers, which makes it impossible." Columbus added that he hasn't spoken to Ms. Rowling in about a decade, so he's unaware of her current situation. "But I remain in very close contact with Daniel Radcliffe; I just spoke to him a few days ago. I still have a great relationship with all the kids from the cast."
