The robot-themed action figure series "ROBOT SPIRITS", released by TAMASHII NATIONS, the collector's toy division of Japan's BANDAI SPIRITS Co., Ltd., has announced its latest product from "Aura Battler Dunbine", the "Welbine (Magazine Memories)", slated for release in March 2026.
Welbine is one of the Aura Battlers widely known to "Aura Battler Dunbine" fans, yet it never appeared in the anime, only in games like "Super Robot Wars". In fact, the Welbine's design is closer to the initially planned successor to Dunbine, the "Billbine". However, during the anime's broadcast, to meet the demands of toy sponsors for model sales, it was temporarily modified into the current mechanical-style Billbine, much to the dissatisfaction of director Yoshiyuki Tomino and others. It wasn't until later that mechanical designer Yutaka Izubuchi re-drew the initial design in his "AURA FHANTASM" column in the model magazine "B-CLUB", giving birth to the "Welbine" which inherited Dunbine's biological aesthetic.
The "ROBOT SPIRITS Welbine (Magazine Memories)" is a special edition released to commemorate the 40th anniversary of "AURA FHANTASM". This product is an updated version based on the regular edition released in 2018, adding a newly sculpted display stand engraved with geometric patterns and the "AURA FHANTASM" title, utilizing a clear brown molded color to evoke the luster of wood carving.
The main body largely reuses the regular edition's design, meticulously expressing the highly organic armor curves inherited from Dunbine. The jewels and engraved lines adorning the armor are rendered with various metallic colors. For articulation, armor parts such as the clavicle and thighs are independent, expanding the range of motion for the limbs, allowing for dynamic poses like a high kneeling stance. The complexly shaped Aura Converter on the back faithfully reproduces its multi-layered movable mechanism, and the chest armor features a cockpit opening and closing mechanism.
