Based on real-life haunting events, "The Amityville Horror" film series has spawned dozens of sequels and reboots over the 46 years since its blockbuster debut in 1979. While a new iteration, "Amityvillenado," even arrived this year, most of these productions have been low-quality and largely overlooked. However, Deadline recently exclusively reported that the next "Amityville Horror" reboot will be a higher-profile production.

According to Deadline, David F. Sandberg, director of the "Shazam!" franchise, has officially signed on with Amazon and MGM to direct the latest "The Amityville Horror" film. Ian Goldberg and Richard Naing, the screenwriting duo behind "The Conjuring: Last Rites," are confirmed to pen the script. Peter Safran, who has produced the entire "The Conjuring" universe and serves as co-CEO of DC Studios, will produce. Casting and release dates have not yet been announced.
Sandberg himself is no stranger to The Conjuring Universe, having started his career in horror and directed the spin-off "Annabelle: Creation." Safran also served as a producer on the "Shazam!" series.
