Major Hollywood studio Legendary Pictures has reportedly shelled out over $3 million to acquire the film adaptation rights for author SenLinYu's upcoming dark fantasy novel, "Alchemised," slated for a September 2025 release. 
According to The Hollywood Reporter, this deal could be one of the most expensive book adaptation rights acquisitions in history, signaling high industry anticipation for the work.
"Alchemised" has already garnered significant attention, despite not yet being officially published. Sources indicate that Legendary Pictures preemptively offered a hefty sum to outbid potential competitors and secure the rights.
Another reason this decision has sparked widespread discussion is the novel's unique origin story. It originally began as "Harry Potter" fan fiction focused on a "shipping" pairing, centering on a secret romance between Draco Malfoy and Hermione Granger. Author SenLinYu (writing as Sen) later transformed its framework into an independent original story, which ultimately evolved into "Alchemised." 
Set in the fictional world of Paladia, the novel follows a protagonist named Helena Marino. According to the official website's synopsis, it is a "gripping dark fantasy debut" that tells the story of a woman who has lost her memory, navigating a war-torn world intertwined with necromancy and alchemy, as she uncovers her hidden past.
Author Sen has already built a significant following within the fantasy reading community. Her other notable work, "Manacled," also a "Harry Potter" fan fiction, has garnered nearly 140,000 ratings on the US online book community platform Goodreads, with an average score of 4.63 stars. It has been translated into 23 languages and boasts over 20 million total downloads. Sen once shared that she initially created the work using a notebook during breaks from childcare, and it unexpectedly captivated a global readership. 
Regarding the adaptation deal, Sen stated through the media, "I'm honored by Legendary's incredible enthusiasm for the project and can't wait to see the world of Paladia come to life on the big screen."
While a film version of "Alchemised" won't materialize in the short term, with the novel set to be published on September 23, 2025, this story's transformation from fan fiction into an original dark fantasy epic will undoubtedly remain a focal point for both the publishing and film industries.
