Back in March, Deadline reported that the rights to the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" franchise were up for grabs, with multiple studios, including A24, vying for the property. Several directors and producers also had their own reboot plans in development. Among those reportedly pitching new story concepts were "Longlegs" director Osgood Perkins, "Yellowstone" creator Taylor Sheridan, "Strange Darling" director JT Mollner, and actor Glen Powell.

Today, Deadline provided an update on the situation, revealing that A24 has emerged as the frontrunner to secure the rights. While a deal isn't officially inked, sources indicate A24 is poised to close the acquisition. Should A24 finalize the deal, the new version co-produced by Mollner and Powell is reportedly the one slated for production.

Deadline also noted that Roy Lee (pictured above), a prolific producer behind blockbusters like "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" and "Weapons," is attached as a co-producer. This particular iteration is planned as a television series, with Powell not expected to star. Beyond the series, Lee and A24 are also concurrently developing a new "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" feature film for Netflix, indicating a multi-platform strategy for the franchise.
