DC Comics and Marvel Comics are set to reignite the crossover craze with "Deadpool/Batman" #1, launching September 17, 2025. A major highlight of this new issue is the return of the "fusion" concept, blending characters from both iconic universes.
This innovative concept first emerged in the 1990s with "Amalgam Comics," which introduced fan-favorite mash-ups like "Dark Claw" (Batman and Wolverine), "Super Soldier" (Superman and Captain America), and "Iron Lantern" (Iron Man and Green Lantern). "Deadpool/Batman" #1 promises to carry on this wild and creative spirit, delivering fresh crossover surprises.
The main story, penned by Zeb Wells with art by Greg Capullo, marks the first official team-up between Deadpool and Batman. The plot sees Deadpool unexpectedly arriving in Gotham City during a crisis, forcing the usually stoic Batman into an unlikely alliance.
Adding to the excitement, a backup short story by Ryan North and Ryan Stegman will introduce a brand-new "fusion" character: Logo. Described as the "last Canadian" and a "prime mutant," Logo is a combination of Wolverine and Lobo. While early reports suggest Logo might be a one-off appearance, the character nonetheless showcases the enduring potential and fun of "Amalgam Comics" in the modern era.
Beyond the main story and the Logo short, the issue will feature several other crossover tales, including Daredevil x Green Arrow by Kevin Smith and Adam Kubert, Captain America x Wonder Woman by Chip Zdarsky and Terry Dodson, and Jeff the Land Shark x Krypto the Superdog by Kelly Thompson and the Gurihiru team.
