Director and co-writer Matt Reeves has offered a highly anticipated update on "The Batman: Part II," confirming the script is now complete. Speaking on the Emmy Awards red carpet, Reeves announced that the sequel is slated to begin principal photography next spring and hit theaters on October 1, 2027, a full five and a half years after the original film. 
Reeves admitted the writing process for the sequel was more protracted than he initially envisioned. "It's been a journey, longer than I had hoped, for many reasons, including some personal ones," he explained. "But the most important reason was to really get the script to the best possible place, to be the best version of the story we could write." He stressed that despite the challenges, the outcome would be well worth the wait.
Discussing lead star Robert Pattinson's reaction, Reeves disclosed that the script was delivered in a specialized "privacy bag," complete with a sealed procedure to prevent any leaks. 
"He's Batman, so if he didn't like it, that would be a problem," Reeves quipped. Fortunately, Pattinson was reportedly highly impressed with the new script, particularly its fresh take on the dual identities of Batman and Bruce Wayne. Reeves added, "I had a hunch he would like it, but for him to actually do so was incredibly encouraging for me."
He further stressed that "The Batman: Part II" will maintain the first film's gritty detective noir style, with a narrative rich in suspense. Protecting plot details is therefore paramount. "If that part of the content were to get out early, it would be an added blow," he noted.
Beyond the big screen, Reeves also touched upon the future of the HBO Max spin-off series "The Penguin." He confirmed that discussions for a potential second season are actively underway with showrunner Lauren Lefranc. "We really love the show, and we think the cast and the writing team did an amazing job," he stated. "We never thought it would get the kind of response it did, and it all exceeded our expectations."
The series recently garnered significant acclaim, sweeping nine awards at both the Emmy Awards and Creative Arts Emmy Awards. Among the wins, Cristin Milioti earned Best Actress for her portrayal of Sofia Falcone.
