● About Staaan
After graduating with a master's degree from Tunghai University's Department of Fine Arts, he worked as a professional photographer in Taipei for several years. In 2019, he founded the brand a.a.a. vinyl toys and currently resides in Taichung.
He enjoys monsters, comics, keeping fish, and playing video games, and recently developed a passion for assembling remote-control cars. His creative inspiration largely stems from daily observations and extensions of his various interests, with his works encompassing painting, sculpture, and soft vinyl toys.
This exhibition, 《Beastdom》, is his first solo exhibition centered on painting since he began making toys. Using his self-created monsters as core characters, he uses painting to transform ideas derived from his process of creating and collecting monster toys, allowing the monsters to display a completely new appearance, different from soft vinyl toys.
In 《Beastdom》, monsters no longer inhabit wild mountains and forests; instead, they enter human society, gradually exhibiting expected behaviors and appearances after being tamed. This alienation of monsters acts like a mirror, reflecting how people are shaped and assimilated within society. Perhaps, everyone once harbored a monster within their heart, only for it to be tamed into the same form over time.
In addition to exhibiting soft vinyl monsters in limited colorways, this exhibition will also unveil multiple new painting works. We sincerely invite you to step into 《Beastdom》; perhaps you will encounter the monster that belongs to you within it.
