John Boyega, who played Finn in the "Star Wars" sequel trilogy, has been one of the most outspoken actors regarding the films. He previously ranked "Episode VIII" as the worst of the three films, and also criticized Disney for not seriously developing characters of color and noted the excessive fan reactions to prominent non-white roles. Most recently, at Florida Supercon, Boyega enthusiastically shared how he would have approached the sequel trilogy's storyline if he were in charge.

When a fan at the event asked Boyega how he would re-envision the entire sequel trilogy, Boyega openly admitted his narrative choices would differ significantly from the existing films. He stated, "It would be crazy. First, I would absolutely not kill off characters like Han Solo and Luke Skywalker. Absolutely not. Our priority would be to complete their stories, to fully tell the legacy they pass on, and to handle that moment of transition properly. And the new generation of characters we play wouldn't be given too much glory in these films. They wouldn't immediately know how to face challenges; they would have to endure hardships like other characters in the series. That's how I would do it."

Boyega also mentioned his desire to draw inspiration from past "Star Wars" video games. He explained, "I would look at the 'Knights of the Old Republic' series to see what we could expand upon, and of course, I'd want to see elements from 'The Force Unleashed' story. I would expand the 'Star Wars' universe as much as possible while respecting the existing lore. And if we're going to expand existing stories, we have to do so within the bounds of respect."
Boyega further added that he wouldn't have handled Luke Skywalker's exit in "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" the way it was done. He asserted, "Luke Skywalker would absolutely not vanish on a rock, just fading out like a projection? No way. I want to give these characters more depth."
