Five years ago, Gerard Butler starred in the disaster film "Greenland," which wasn't a massive box office hit. Despite its modest $35 million production budget, it only grossed $52 million worldwide. Typically, these numbers wouldn't inspire a studio to greenlight a sequel. However, strong viewership on streaming platforms seemingly changed the tide, as Lionsgate announced a follow-up, "Greenland: Migration," four years ago. Now, with the film set for an early next year release, the first trailer has officially dropped.

Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin, who portrayed the married couple in the first installment, are both returning for the sequel. Joining them is 18-year-old rising star Roman Griffin Davis, known for his breakout role in "Jojo Rabbit," who will play their now-teenage son.
Additionally, "Greenland" director Ric Roman Waugh and screenwriter Chris Sparling are back to helm and pen the script, respectively. Butler's personal production company, G-BASE, also continues its involvement in the production.
The first film concluded with the Butler family successfully evading the comet impact and finding refuge in an underground bunker in Greenland. The sequel picks up as the survivors must leave their no-longer-safe sanctuary, embarking on a perilous journey across the frozen European wasteland in search of a new, habitable home in Southern France.
