DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn, currently busy promoting the second season of the DC series "Peacemaker," offered some hints about the future direction of the DC Universe during a recent interview with Deadline. Regarding "Peacemaker" specifically, Gunn teased that certain supporting characters from Season 2 would return, though not necessarily in a third season. He declined to specify which projects they would appear in, encouraging viewers to watch Season 2 first before further discussion.

Gunn was also asked about the development status of the long-gestating "The Authority" film adaptation. "The Authority" was among the first projects announced for development after the formation of DC Studios, but it had reportedly faced script issues, leaving its current status unclear. Gunn clarified that "The Authority" has not been canceled and remains in development, adding that a showrunner recently discussed potential approaches for the project with him.

Upon hearing the term "showrunner," a title typically associated with television series, the interviewer immediately pressed Gunn on whether "The Authority" was being redeveloped as a TV show. Gunn responded, "Who knows? I probably wouldn't make 'a certain type' of movie for characters that audiences don't know, because those films are harder to get people into theaters for." Gunn did not elaborate on what "a certain type of movie" entailed. However, DC is currently developing a film centered on a character largely unfamiliar to general audiences: Batman villain Clayface. This suggests that Gunn's criteria for determining a character's prominence and suitability for a starring role might still be evolving, or perhaps he has yet to strictly implement this standard.
