Skyrim Grandma Retires: 89-Year-Old Shirley Curry Ends 15-Year "The Elder Scrolls" YouTube Journey, Citing Loss of Joy

Shirley Curry, affectionately known as "Skyrim Grandma," recently announced her official retirement from creating "The Elder Scrolls" series game videos on YouTube. The beloved elderly streamer, who is nearing her 90th birthday, marked the end of her nearly 15-year gaming journey with her farewell video, "My Goodbye to Skyrim."

In the video, Curry candidly stated that as she ages, she finds it increasingly difficult to maintain the motivation to create content for "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim."

"Every time I think of a new way to play, I might record one or two episodes with a new character, but I quickly get bored," she explained. "I'm tired, and I can no longer find joy in it, partly because the audience has changed."

Curry noted that while early viewers often provided in-depth feedback, recent comments have mostly been simple messages like "Hi Grandma, I love you Grandma," which she said made it hard to sustain her passion. She emphasized that she didn't put effort into making videos just for casual greetings.

This isn't her first retirement announcement; she has previously taken breaks and returned, even sharing gameplay of "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion" earlier this year. However, this time, Curry stated she is truly stepping away from "Skyrim" video creation for good.

However, she still encourages fans to maintain their connection with her through other means. She frequently mentioned fan-made mods that allow her to join the game as a follower, recommending them for fans to download and experience. Additionally, she will continue to operate her Bible study YouTube channel, inviting interested viewers to follow it.

Notably, Bethesda previously promised to include Curry in "The Elder Scrolls 6" in some form. However, seven years have passed since the game's initial teaser trailer, and there's still no concrete news about its development. Curry did not mention this promise again in her recent video.

Curry concluded in the video, "I still cherish those viewers who have been with me for a long time." She added, "I'll occasionally post vlogs, and if you want to chat about anything, you can reach out to me via email or physical mail."
